Bob Seijas, Scott Duff, Alan Cors and Richard Deane were named as the GCA committee responsible for bringing the trophy concept from the wishing stage to reality.

Richard Deane developed the design and along with Carroll Hale completed the rifle casting, Harvey Whitehouse did the metal and wood fabrication and Dennis Scott completed the Parkerizing.

Association President Richard Deane, Frank Walter of the association, and M1 rifle historian Scott Duff unveiled the new trophy and made the first trophy presentation.

The GCA was founded in 1985 by Richard Deane of Kentucky with the goal of putting the many scattered Garand collectors in touch with each other to exchange and further our knowledge of the rifle.Today, the not-for-profit corporation has grown to nearly 13,000 members around the world, and is increasing every year.
