   SPRINGFIELD - Stephen A. Dean likes his adopted city so much, he made a movie about it.
   
   Dean, a chiropractor, dog lover and fluoridation fighter, has produced a 30-minute video called "Our City on the River" that he will show tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at Red Rose Pizzeria, 1060 Main St.
   
   "I'm trying to promote city pride," said Dean, 64.

   Dean, who lives and has a chiropractic practice on Parker Street, said yesterday he took five weeks and paid a local production company more than $2,000 of his own money to make the movie.
   
   A native of Queens in New York City, Dean said he has lived here since a snowstorm left him stranded in 1969 and he saw a "For Sale" sign on the house he now lives in.
   
   The video shows landmarks like Forest Park, examples of city architecture and interviews with city Councilors Bud L. Williams, Jose F. Tosado, Kateri B. Walsh and Domenic J. Sarno, he said.
   
   He chose them from among the nine councilors to reflect the city's different backgrounds.

   Dean said his goal was to show the positive parts of Springfield and to support local government by encouraging residents to participate such as by voting.

   There's also the Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle and a growing Hispanic population eager to improve the city, Dean said.
   
   The local government theme stems from the presence of a state-appointed board that has been running the city since July 2004. The Springfield Finance Control Board has replaced the budget crisis with stability, but now it is time to return power to the city's elected officials, he said.
   
   Still, Dean said the video is not intended to be political, and he is not endorsing the four councilors who were interviewed.
   
   Dean is co-founder of the Dog Adoption Network and president of Massachusetts Communities for Pure Water, which opposes fluoridation of public water supplies.
