    Robert Dean, of Warren, has been appointed to the Ohio Veterans' Home Board of Trustees. Dean served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1982, earning numerous commendations and twice being selected as non-commissioned Officer of the Year. Dean has worked for the Cleveland-Cuyahoga Port Authority since 1993, currently serving as the facility security officer, directing and managing the port authority's homeland security plan and also serves as city councilmember-at-large for the Warren City Council.

    Mr. Robert F. Dean Sr., 75, of Blytheville, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at his home. Born Aug. 26, 1928, in Atlanta, the son of Tom Fenton "Doc" and Alethea Aldridge Dean, he was a retired pharmaceutical representative, a longtime Blytheville resident and a member of the First Baptist Church.

    His parents preceded him in death.

    Mr. Dean started life traveling with his parents' Medicine Show in which he performed. He graduated from Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tenn., in 1948. He then attended the University of Mississippi at Oxford and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served his country as a technical sergeant in the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the service, he began working as a pharmaceutical representative of Bergen-Brunsweig for the next 40 years.

    He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Blytheville Chamber of Commerce, Lifetime Membership in the Parent-Teacher Association of America, and the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce Physical Fitness Leadership Award. He was past president of the Chickasaw Booster Club and an officer for many years.

    Mr. Dean enjoyed the company of his morning coffee group at the Dixie Pig and his Sunday school class. His encouragement of service to young people carried through, with all four of his children, daughter-in-law and son-in-law currently in public education.

    Mr. Dean was known for his dedication to the youth of Blytheville. He was one of the original organizers of the grade school football and track program in Blytheville schools in 1959.
