Robert Dean trained as a Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music, where he studied piano, horn, composition and conducting, he read music at Durham and continued his studies at the Royal Northern College and the National Opera Studio as repetiteur and singer.
Following a highly successful nine-year singing career during which he performed major roles in leading opera companies both here and abroad, he decided to focus on conducting and made his debut at the Batignano Festival in 1987.He was appointed Head of Music at Scottish Opera in 1990 and during the next three years he conducted more than 100 opera and concert performances for them.Since 1993 he has concentrated on a freelance career.
Robert will step down as Artistic Director and Chorus Master of the Philharmonia Chorus in September 2007.
