   As we celebrate 30 years of ministry for our church this month, I want to dedicate this issue of Grace Notes to the memory of our founding pastor, Rev. Jack Dean who went to be with the Lord on December 25, 1979, and to Maxine Dean who is still faithfully serving the Lord right here at Grace Baptist Church.

   God called me to preach in February, 1970 right here at Grace under the ministry of Pastor Dean.
   
   I lived in their home or "The Dean Hotel" as it was affectionately known during my single days while serving in the United States Navy. It was great to have a home away from home and to be able to spend so much time around such a godly influence. In May of 1973 I started work here as assistant pastor. Pastor Dean was one of the hardest working pastors I have ever known. Being the pastor of Grace for the last 13 years, I honestly do not know how he was able to do all that he did. One of the reasons he was able to accomplish so much was a faithful wife who stood behind him.

   Maxine Dean is the wife of the late Pastor Jack Dean, a Sunday School Teacher, and the original owner of the famous "Dean Hotel".

   Over the course of the next six months, Pastor Dean faithfully preached the Word of God from the pulpit. People in the church -- Maxine Dean, Jackie and Toby Byrd, Allen Goodwin and others -- reached out to me and drew me into the circle of fellowship.

   With the encouragement I received from Pastor and Maxine Dean, the assistant pastor David Price and others, I grew rapidly in those early years.
