"I'm hungry," she whispered, and brushed aside the loose tendrils of auburn hair that fell across her heart-shaped face.
"Hungry for what?" he asked, with a hopeful glint in the eye, his broad shoulders crowding the two cooks in the kitchen.
"Hungry for fondue," she said, reaching for the grater. Her hazel eyes gazed longingly into his, then at the Swiss cheese in her hand.
"My burners are hot," she said, "and so am I." She reached for the controls and turned down the heat on the stovetop.
"I'm hot, too," he said feverishly. "I'm on fire." His billowy sleeve smoked as the gas flame caressed the fabric. He moaned as the flame kissed his arm.
In an instant, she rescued him, a damp towel in one hand, a glass of champagne in the other.
"Let me cool you off," she said and smiled.
