   Via Rockingham County Rockingham County Manager Tom Robinson announced recently the hiring of John A. Dean as Personnel Director.

   Dean, 51, is most recently director of human resources in Davidson County, where he provided support and service to more than 800 full-time employees. He was responsible for employee recruitment, strategic planning, compensation and benefits, and risk management and safety.

   Dean, a long-time North Carolinian, holds a degree in Psychology from Pfeiffer College. He has also attended Leadership Triad and numerous short courses at the UNC School of Government.

   "John has experience in both the public and private sectors," he noted.

   Dean was initially attracted to the job because it offered a more diverse workload. "My current job focuses solely on Human Resources," he noted. "The fact that I will get to involve myself in more aspects of government, such as purchasing, is very appealing to me."
   
   "To me," he continued, "the main attraction of the job was the potential it offers me to grow professionally.'
   
   Dean is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management, the International Personnel management Association, and the Triad Leadership Network. He begins his duties in Rockingham County on July 24.
