Joey Dean's first "official" day at the church was Jan. 2.
Though he's been in Duncan only a few days, he estimates he's met 60 to 70 young people ages 13 through 18 - seventh through 12th grades - already.
"I think maybe an average of about 45 attend at any one time.I'm glad to see it.I hope more will join us," he said.
Dean came to Duncan from Oklahoma City.He lived in Choctaw in the 1980s, then his parents, who are both employed by the Federal Aviation Agency, took the family to Frankfurt, Germany, in 1990.Four years later, the family moved to Oklahoma City.
Dean received his undergraduate degree in music from Oklahoma City University. His wife, Kristi, also has a degree in music. He played the saxophone and she the clarinet in school. He also plays guitar and piano, and they enjoy singing and making music together.

To better fulfill that calling, Dean is working toward a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, taking extension classes through Oklahoma Baptist University.
Dean came to Duncan after spending a year and a half as youth minister at Southwood Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.He served a summer internship in Colorado and as music and youth minister at Bellevue Baptist Church in Norman before that.
Asked if he had begun any new programs at Immanuel, Dean said he was still evaluating the needs.
"My goal is making authentic disciples.

More information will be announced over the next few weeks, Dean said.
"It's an ongoing circle, never ending. You get kids saved, build disciples and send them out.Parents are a huge key in my ministry, and I encourage them to get involved as much as possible," he said.

Softball and flag football are traditional youth activities at the church, but Dean also plans to expand the youth program.
"It's hard to pinpoint an activity. There has to be a reason for it.Is it just for fun, or is there a purpose behind it?Our ultimate purpose is evangelism, so we will look for ways to incorporate that into the youth program," he said.
Dean enjoys playing golf and basketball. His wife, who is an accountant with an oil and gas company, GHK in Oklahoma City, likes to do crafts and make jewelry.
