    OAK BROOK, IL--Lloyd H. Dean, formerly executive vice president of Advocate Health Care's central region, has been promoted to the newly created position of executive vice president, operations, of the entire system.

    In his new role, Dean will focus on integrating operations across Advocate and maximizing growth of Advocate's existing health care facilities.His appointment is part of Advocate's recent decision to eliminate its regional structure in favor of a systemwide approach to operations.

    Dean had been functioning as one of three regional executive vice presidents of Advocate for the past two and a half years.Prior to that, he served as president of EHS Home Health Care Service since 1992, leading it through a substantial period of growth.The home health company was part of EHS Health Care, which together with Lutheran General HealthSystem merged to form Advocate in January 1995.

    Previously, Dean was with The Upjohn Company for 14 years in progressively responsible management positions, including director of operations and director of marketing for North America for Upjohn Health Care Services Inc.While there, he received the W.E. Upjohn Award for management and operational excellence.

    Dean currently serves as chairperson of the Constituency Section of Disproportionate Share Hospitals of the Illinois Hospital and HealthSystems Association.He also is on the board of directors of the Bank of Commerce in Downers Grove, Illinois.

    A 1972 communications graduate of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Dean also earned a master of arts degree in education there in 1976.Before moving into the health care field, he was an instructor at Western Michigan and later a teacher and assistant administrator in the Kalamazoo public school system.
