   Dean Appointed Board Chairman of Greater Phoenix CVB
   
   PHOENIX (Jan. 18, 2008) â€" George Dean, the longtime leader of the Greater Phoenix Urban League, has been appointed the new chairman of the Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau board of directors.
   
   Dean has served on the Greater Phoenix CVB's board for 12 years and previously held the position of Secretary and Treasurer.As President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Phoenix Urban League, he steadied the fiscal accountability and raised the community visibility of a once troubled nonprofit.

   Before taking the reins of the Greater Phoenix Urban League in 1992, Dean was the CEO of the organization's affiliates in Sacramento, Calif., and Omaha, Neb. In all, he has worked on behalf of the Urban League for more than 25 years.His leadership focuses on advocacy toward issues affecting the African-American community â€" education, job placement and economic development â€" and he annually helps raise more than 3 million dollars for the advancement of minority enterprises.
   
   Dean's community involvement also includes membership on Arizona State Universty's Minority Advisory Council and the boards of Barrow's Neurological Foundation and Cox Communications Charities.He also serves on the Cox Communications Community Advisory Board and the Valley of the Sun Communities in Schools Board, and he is a Dean's Associate Member at the ASU College of Education.
   
   Dean is an alumnus of Arizona State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology.He performed graduate studies Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
   
   Dean makes his home in Scottsdale and lists among his hobbies golf, reading and listening to smooth jazz.
