Who is Geoff Dean?
Geoffrey Dean, a native southern Californian started playing golf at the age of thirteen. In Pasadena, California, he studied the game under the instruction of golf professional, J.D. Sanderson. He began competing in junior golf events at the age of fourteen. He was a member of the southern California Junior PGA and he was an active member of the Western States Golf Association (WSGA).In 1981 to 1985, Geoff attended St. Francis High School, in La Canada, California. He started as a freshman on the junior varsity squad and worked his way up through the ranks.By his senior year, Geoff was the number one player and MVP on the varsity squad. At the end of high school, he had several junior golf victories and was the 1984 WSGA Junior Champion. In 1985 to 1989, he attended the University of San Diego. Not a member of the team, Geoff qualified as a walk-on.By January of 1986, he was a full member of the traveling squad.By his junior year, he was the number one player and team captain. While a USD Team Member, he earned Most Improved Golfer award, Gentleman Golfer award and MVP.In addition, in 1989, Geoff was ranked as one of the top players in the West Coast Athletic Conference.Upon graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, he decided to become a professional golfer.

Geoffrey Dean, a teaching pro from Indio, will play in the Nissan Open with his PGA Tour dreams as alive as ever
...
Dean sincerely, passionately, seriously wants to play on the PGA Tour, to reach what he calls "The Show."
...
Dean earned a spot in the Nissan Open in 2004, when he also played in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and Buick Invitational. He missed the cut in each tournament.
Those appearances -- the reward for winning the 2003 Southern California PGA Championship -- were great. But this time it's different.
This time, he said, he'll be more confident, more relaxed, more focused.
"I know I can play, and my game, believe it or not, is better than it's ever been," Dean said by phone."With my mental attitude, I feel I can do things.I'm still going after it."
Dean, a multi-sport athlete for much of his youth in Pasadena, became a busy junior golfer after getting serious about the game in high school. He took lessons from J. D. Sanderson, who got his pupil onto various exclusive Southern California courses, including Riviera.
All the experience and instruction led Dean to a four-year career at the University of San Diego, after which he dove headfirst into the mini-tour circuits all across North America.
But being a touring pro on the minor league circuits didn't lead Dean directly to the Tour, as every participant dreams.
"I played every tour under the sun," Dean said."But I just didn't have the game, and then money became an issue."
So, because Dean had to, he shifted gears. He ended up as an instructor at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort, where he made another discovery about the game he'd loved for so long -- teaching it is great.
"I found out that I love to teach," said Dean, who became the director of instruction at Tahquitz after being director of sales and marketing."My teacher who I grew up with, he was a great teacher, but I didn't realize it had transferred to me until I started to teach."
But Dean still competed at SCPGA events. And last year he played the now-defunct A. G. Spanos Tour, devoting a large chunk of the year (and a lot of money) to focusing on his game.
"What separates him is that he's still got that hunger," said SCPGA director of tournaments Gerald Wong, who grew up playing at the Arroyo Seco course with Dean.
...
Anyone around Dean can testify to that, including James M. Saenz, SilverRock's head pro.
...
Dean said he might have some business opportunities awaiting him if he's still playing this weekend, and financing is crucial for any player chasing a Tour dream.
"Making the cut would mean the world to me," Dean said.
