  The Crisis Centre, formerly known as The Women's Crisis Centre, is a registered, non-profit organization that provides services to people who are the victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
  
  The Centre was opened in 1982 by Dr. Sandra Dean-Patterson, who saw an urgent need in the community for such a facility.

  Director of the Crisis Center, Sandra Dean-Patterson said the large numbers of reported cases of sexual abuse of children is a "sad commentary" on our society.
  
  "My feeling is it is probably more than that but we probably don't hear about it," said the well-known psychiatrist.
