   Markham resident Gwendolyn Dean-Green is the newest member of the Bremen High School District 228 board.
   
   Dean-Green was named to the board by Joe Kaczanowski, the suburban Cook County regional schools superintendent.

   Dean-Green graduated from Tinley Park High School, and has a daughter at Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills.
   
   She is active at Hillcrest, where she's a member of the band and gospel choir booster clubs and was named volunteer of the month in October.

   Stung by the closing of Acme Metals, Riverdale officials and leaders of the unions representing city workers have approved a deal that slashes $1.2 million from the village's budget but avoids massive layoffs.
