WASHINGTON - Joe Davenport, a member of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union, Local 1488/Council 28, was one of eleven union activists to recently receive an award from the Union Plus National Labor College Scholarship program.

Davenport, who works at the state-owned Subway franchise at the University of Washington, is working toward a B.A. degree and hopes, upon graduation, to work either as an education coordinator or as a teacher in the public school system."I'm thrilled with the scholarship and the program at the NLC," said Davenport.

The Davenports are the sons of University of Washington Local 1488 member Joe Davenport.

"Our bosses have shown no respect to us; in fact, they flouted labor law by closing Portage Bay Galley before contacting our union," said Joe Davenport, a food service worker and steward for WSFE 1488.
