Jeremy Davenport Returns to His Roots
U. City Native to conduct workshops for aspiring artists
Noted jazz artist, Jeremy Davenport is coming home to University City.
The popular trumpeter was selected by the Municipal Commission on Arts and Letters as this year's Returning Artist.

Since graduating from U. City High School in 1988, Davenport has participated in international jazz festivals and other special events.He's toured the world four times with Harry Connick Jr. and his band.And his several recorded CDs received high praise among jazz critics.
Davenport was a Merit Scholar at the Manhattan School of Music and studied under Wynton Marsalis while in New York.He was awarded a scholarship to the University of New Orleans, where he was one of the first students in the new jazz program founded by Wynton's father, Ellis Marsalis.
Currently, Davenport resides in New Orleans where in April 2000, he was voted into the Jazz Hall of Fame by New Orleans Magazine.In his adopted hometown, he performs regularly at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and is frequently featured on Emeril Live, a cooking show on cable television's Food Network.
In 2001, Davenport was inducted into University City High School's Hall of Fame.He performed in two "Lions of Jazz" concerts that raised money for the University City Education Foundation.
Davenport's visit is sponsored by the City of University City Municipal Commission on Arts and Letters, Royal Banks of Missouri and the Darwin Portman Memorial Fund.
