D'Apuzzo's research project was a two-year study focusing on patients who had primary total hip replacement surgery (without cement) performed. The research concluded that the larger the prosthesis, patients were four times more likely to develop pain after a year of the surgery being conducted. Hip replacement surgery can be done in two different ways: with cement or without cement and the component of the implant can be either cobalt chrome or titanium. The study was conducted on 241 patients. 118 patients were implanted with cobalt chrome and 123 with titanium.
D'Apuzzo is a graduate of the Central University in Caracas, Venezuela. -
