David directs a project that addresses negative fallout from the way that torture is presented on U.S. TV shows like "24", "LOST", "The Wire," "Sleeper Cell" etc.David is working closely with military officials to develop educational tools to ensure that junior soldiers know that what they see on TV is meant to be entertainment.It is not meant to be replicated in the field.David is also working closely with writers, producers, studio executives and others in Hollywood to begin a conversation about ways that torture and interrogation might be portrayed on TV that do not have negative repercussions and still hold the viewers interest.
Prior to directing the Primetime Torture Project, David served as the campaign manager for Human Rights First's Campaign to End Torture.In this capacity David played the lead role in building a coalition of retired Generals and Admirals who were outspoken in their opposition to torture.Before joining Human Rights First, David was a journalist for daily and weekly newspapers in New Jersey.He also spent three years working on Capitol Hill as a Press Secretary and Legislative Director.David graduated from Haverford College in 1992. -
