According to Tim Dantoin, special projects manager for OMNNI Associates, the answer is that a business can save money and improve employee safety through the use of an environmental management system (EMS).
An environmental management system is a process that encourages facility managers to evaluate their environmental policies and procedures. It's a way for companies to look at what they're doing right and what they could do better. An EMS typically includes waste disposal, HVAC issues, water usage, and other environmental concerns.Dantoin, who helps develop environmental management systems for OMNNI clients, says, 'An EMS attempts to bring a systems approach to managers of organizations. It encourages innovation and gives companies incentive to go above and beyond what the current regulations dictate.'
OMNNI recently published several benefits of developing and instituting and Environmental Management System.
Facility managers (FMs) are probably the biggest beneficiaries once an EMS is in place because it improves facility efficiency and can save money. The system encourages FMs to assess their responsibilities and develop less expensive ways to accomplish them.
