U of C is where Dr. G met his future wife, Jean K. Danner from Abilene, Kansas. Jean was a nursing student at U of C hospitals. They were married on December 20, 1969. After his internship at Gainesville Florida at the U. of Florida hospitals, Dr. G did a General Surgery Residency at the University of Missouri Medical Center from 1972 to 1976.
A Lt. Commander in the medical corps of the U.S. Navy, he served at Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Illinois from 1976 to 1978. He then returned to UMMC for a Cardio-thoracic Residency from 1978 to 1980. He joined Columbia Surgical Associates in 1980 and has lived and practiced in Columbia ever since.
Dr. G and his wife have three daughters, Karen, 29, a physical therapist at Vanderbilt Hospitals in Nashville Tennessee, Linda, 26, a physical therapist at Weiss Hospital in Chicago and Ann Marie, a junior at Notre Dame.
Dr. G was a U.S.S. Swim official for U.S.S. Swim Club meets, Division meets and championships for 10 years. He is still an active official for the Missouri High School Swim Association and has been an official at most of the state meets until this year.
