Friday, December 7, 2001
FROM NEWS STAFF REPORTS
William Dannemiller, a longtime Ypsilanti attorney and a resident of Ann Arbor, died Wednesday of heart failure. He was 74.
Dannemiller, a native of Saginaw, was active in local and state politics. He was the Democratic Party nominee in the 1960s for state representative, state senator and Wash-tenaw County probate judge, but was not elected to any of those offices.
After graduating from the University of Michigan with a law degree in 1956, he worked as a lawyer for Ford Motor Corp. in Dearborn for a few years and later established a private practice in Ypsilanti.
Washtenaw County Probate Judge John Kirkendall said Dannemiller explored all kinds of activities in his life. "He did many things. He was an exuberant man," he said. "He was always trying new theories."
Dannemiller was an Alaskan entrepreneur, founding the Alaskan Valdez Development Corp., which built housing for supervisors working on the Alaskan pipeline. He also was involved in mineral exploration in western Michigan, served on several boards of directors and was active in his church and in the community.
Survivors include five sons: William, David, Robert and Steven Dannemiller and Patrick Purdy; one daughter, Kathleen; one sister, Mary Ditz; and five granddaughters. -
