Eno River Garden Company co-owner Dana Dannehower, left, explains her philosophy on caring for plants to Elizabeth Collins, right, during a historic garden tour in Hillsborough on Saturday morning.
...
HILLSBOROUGH -- Dana Dannehower plucked a potato vine plant from its pot and stuffed it into a copper-colored container nearly filled by an orange-blossomed dahlia, burgundy-colored grass and a purple trailing verbena.
"It's not all about flower color; you've got to vary the leaf form as well," Dannehower told a small group of women gathered around her Saturday on Churton Street.
Dannehower, co-owner of Eno River Garden Company, offered two short workshops in container gardening as part of the Hillsborough Spring Garden Tour during the weekend.
The garden tour, which alternates years with the Chapel Hill Garden Tour, was expanded to two days this year.
