   COGNEX CORPORATION PROMOTES JEFF DANNAY TO DIRECTOR OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
   
   NATICK, MA, April 2, 2001-Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX), the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems, has announced the promotion of Jeff Dannay to the position of Director of Customer Satisfaction for its Modular Vision Systems Division (MVSD). Mr. Dannay will report directly to Patrick Alias, Cognex's Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing.

   Mr. Dannay joined Cognex in 1996 as Manager of Vision Solutions. In this role, he established the Cognex engineering group that develops specialized machine vision applications for end-user customers. In just four years, Mr. Dannay succeeded in attaining project revenues of more than $3 million annually for this group.
   
   As Director of Customer Satisfaction for MVSD, Mr. Dannay will be responsible for the U.S. operations of Cognex's Educational Services Department, which provides machine vision training courses; the Technical Support Department, which provides 24-hour assistance to customers; and the Vision Solutions Department. He will also provide guidance and support for Cognex's Customer Satisfaction groups worldwide.

   Mr. Dannay holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
