No one at the firm had ever considered a NASCAR sponsorship - until GlobalTec chief executive John Dankovchik got to know Mr. Staubach, the longtime Cowboys quarterback who now owns part of a racing team.
...
"I wasn't expecting much when Roger took me to Texas [Motor] Speedway in November," Mr. Dankovchik said.
...
Mr. Dankovchik talked to Mr. Staubach and other team owners about sponsorship opportunities and finally settled on a Busch Series car owned by racing legend Rusty Wallace.
...
If not, Mr. Dankovchik will probably bow out of racing.
"One of the big reasons we went with the Wallace team is that they offered us an opportunity to test this out for a single race," Mr. Dankovchik said."Infomercials may not be as glamorous as professional sports, but we've done very well by them, and we need to know that we can get the same sort of returns from sports sponsorship before we go too far down this path."
Mr. Dankovchik, whose 7-year-old company has 180 employees, has his fingers crossed, and not just because he'd like to tap NASCAR's growing base of affluent fans.
