   Pete served as the managing editor of Wired Digital in San Francisco during the height of the high-tech boom in the late 1990s and helped lead the development of Wired News -- or Wired.com -- which continues to be an industry standard.

   If you were looking for a description of the perfect resume for wine PR, you would find it next to Pete's name. As a beat writer in Southern California, a copy editor for the San Francisco Examiner, and a news executive at Wired Digital, he knows the news media from the inside out, and he still talks to the journalists he's worked with over the years.
   
   He left it all for a labor of love, to work at a tiny winery in southern Oregon. He bugged the hell out of the winemaker and owner, incessantly asking questions about grape growing and winemaking, and he got his fingers permanently stained with juice of fresh Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (remember, this was southern Oregon). It changed his life.
   
   From Oregon he moved to Napa, where he was the managing editor of wine.com. That's where he learned that you can get paid to write about wine. "At Balzac I get to combine two great interests: writing and wine," says Pete. "And I get to work with smart people who believe firmly that work not only can be fun, but it darn well ought to be."
   
   He gets the whole picture. Even better, he can deliver that picture to the media in a way that few of us can match. And he still makes wine, too.
