  Norm DanielsNorm Daniels is a native Californian, an artist and architect.Between 1989 and 2005 Norm served as Graphic Artist at Hume Lake Christian Camps, after which he moved south to where he currently lives and works as Creative Director for Pine Valley Bible Conference Center in the Cuyamaca Mountains.

  Born and raised in San Diego, CA.Norm studied Architecture in college and spent a few years designing houses in the San Diego area. (All of which still stand!!)
  
  In 1989 he moved the family to Hume Lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains outside of Kings Canyon National Park, where he took up sailing and painting to console his longing for salt water and surf.These paintings are a result of that longing and angst.Norm is employed as a resident artist, and architectural designer for Hume Lake Christian Camps.

  Norm was born and raised in San Diego, California.As a third generation San Diegan, he took to all manner of water sports at an early age but settled with surfing in the early seventies.But it was drawing that held his attention most of all.As early as he can recall he was scribbling on any scrap of paper he could commandeer.All manner of sketches adorned his homework assignments throughout his school years.In college he found that the study of Architecture was a fitting outlet for his passion to draw, which lead Norm to a career designing houses in the greater San Diego area.Then in 1989 Norm moved his family to the High Sierra near the town of Hume Lake where he took a position as Graphic Designer and Architect for Hume Lake Christian Camps.
  
  Hume was a wonderful place to raise his young family, but there was seldom surf on the Lake, so Norm took up sailing as a consolation.

  Norm then studied oil painting taught by the master "plein air" artist Ken Auster.

  With a few rules of application and a life of design composition behind him, Norm proceeded to paint as much and as often as possible.Though mostly self-taught, Norm is keenly aware of the inspiration he found in the classes with Ken Auster and his relentless study of other impressionist artists.Norm says sometimes the paint just seems to flow out of his soul and onto the canvas which is reflected in his composition of incredible bold brush strokes and dramatic color pallets.
  
  Now back in San Diego, Norm is finding opportunities to paint and exhibit his works in wonderful venues such as McKibben Studios in Corona Del Mar, California where Norm is showing Surf & Island themed paintings and a few "plein air" pieces of San Diego county landmarks and nautical pieces as well.Norm also exhibits in the trade shows with legendary big wave surfer, Greg Noll and his cartoons are featured monthly in "Surfer Magazine".

  We've lost Norm Daniels!"The Norm" is not just a standard, but a personality that for many years has helped define the image and face of Hume Lake.Norm has accepted the position of Executive Director for Pine Valley Bible Conference Center near San Diego. (Congratulations, I guess.How can I possibly be happy about this?)
  
  You may not recognize Norm, but you have surely seen some of his creations.He has designed all of our team posters over the years, and designed and painted the sets and back drops for our Ponderosa Chapel, and for many years was our graphic artist.
  
  An accomplished plen aire artist, he is known almost as much for his paintings of big boards and bigger waves (check out his website: normhere.com).Like most creative types, he refuses to wear shoes and resists conformity.He has led our Dawn Patrol (morning worship) and is one of the favorite instructors at the Joshua Wilderness Institute.We also lose his wife, Patsy (of the "Hi Patsy!"fame), and his children who have all been key players on our staff.
