And ahead of those four teams meeting on Sunday, Maitland captain Mark Daniels pondered any number of scenarios that would ensure his team hangs on to top spot.
Daniels said the simplest answer was for the team to keep winning, with the match against Kurri its biggest challenge of the season, before a final round showdown with winless Scone.
Maitland needs to beat Kurri on Sunday and if The Oaks beats Muswellbrook it would ensure the top two remains intact.
The maximum points the two teams can claim is 13, while Kurri and Muswellbrook need to spring a surprise on Sunday to shatter such plans.
Daniels said Kurri was the "in-form" team of the competition after its big win over Singleton, a team both Maitland and Muswellbrook only just scraped past.
"Maitland will not be treating them lightly," Daniels said.
"But if we can beat Kurri, I'm confident we'll make the final."
A factor that is sure to even out Sunday's contest is the "old-style country course" on offer at Scone.
Daniels said the nine-hole course would provide a great leveller for any pre-existing advantage between the two teams but said both teams boasted its share of experience. -

Maitland number one player and club championship runner-up, Chris Burdekin won his match, as did team-mates Craig Melville, Bob Walker, Adam Roy and Leigh Williams, while Maitland skipper Mark Daniels and Bryan Gulliver were the only blemishes in an otherwise good start for the club.

Maitland will play defending premiers, Muswellbrook in round two at Singleton next Sunday, with Daniels interested to hear of their narrow 4-3 defeat over Singleton yesterday.
