For many executives, business travel is often a dreaded affair, with long lines and heightened security consuming valuable chunks of time that many say can be better spent getting things done.
Many business executives are opting to take matters into their own hands by learning to fly. While the fun of flying is a top motivator for many, cutting down on travel time and the ability to schedule more appointments per trip ranks a close second.
Recent statistics indicate a decline in registered pilots just before Sept. 11, but industry observers say the trend is back on the rise.

Daniels is part owner in a Cessna 172 four-seater. Typically he tries to fly if a client visit takes him 100 to 200 miles out of the area. He also flies to trade seminars in other parts of the state.
"Someone once told me, if you have time to spare, go by air. But I don't depend on flying to take care of business," Daniels said.
