   Bruce Daniels, secretary of the American Farrier's Association and president of the Garden State Horseshoer's Association says, "In the wrong hands, a high strung horse can be extremely dangerous."
   
   Pet Parents who treat their horses like children and avoid training them with serious discipline can create a very dangerous situation when it comes to shoeing, say farriers. Daniels, who has been shoeing horses for 55 years, knows this is true, as he has had several bones broken by unruly horses.
   
   Re-training your horse The first step towards creating a comfort level between your horse and your farrier is to make sure there's no medical reason for your horse's behavior. If the veterinarian gives a clean bill of health, you will then need to begin re-training your horse.
   
   Trainers agree that you should start slowly, by picking up your horse's feet a few times a day, and then gradually holding them for longer and longer periods of time as the farrier would. Then, advance to holding his hooves in the position the farrier will need to hold them, and tap around his hoof and sole with a hoof pick.
