Andrea Daniels, a grade 12 student at Westgate Mennonite Collegiate, has been the Manitoba representative on the national committee planning the Youth Assembly for July in Abbotsford, B.C.The committee had its first meeting last September at Columbia Bible College.
Since then, the committee has met monthly through telephone conferences to choose speakers and topics, scripture passages and community service options, and plan the schedule of events and workshops.
"One of the things we have done this year is add discussion groups to learn more about the conference," said Daniels.
"I've been impressed with how much planning and organizing goes into an event when you want to make the experience meaningful and interesting to so many people. It has been interesting to see how many people are involved behind the scenes," she said.
Three buses of Manitoba youth are planning to attend: two with 54 youth each and one with 50 youth from Steinbach. Two youth groups, from North Kildonan Mennonite and Carman Mennonite, are going on their own. There will be about 180 youth attending from Manitoba.Whitewater rafting has been added to the trip for some of the groups.
"I have enjoyed being involved behind the scenes," said Daniels."I have really enjoyed seeing my input and the concerns of youth valued."
