Born Kathleen Ruth Daniell in Northern Ireland, she was single and lived alone. She worked for the NHS as a nurse, children's nurse and midwife, becoming regional nurse director with the East Anglian Regional Health Authority. On returning to the Island in 1993, Mrs Daniell was appointed a non-executive board member of the IW Community NHS Trust. When the community trust and St Mary's Hospital merged in 1997, she joined the IW Healthcare NHS Trust and when they became separate organisations again, she was re-appointed to the board of the Primary Care Trust. Her particular interests were professional development and education of staff and she had a special interest in mental health and learning disability services. She was also a trustee of the IW Society for the Blind and involved with carriage driving for the disabled, as well as a keen supporter of the IW Hunt.In February 2004 she used her medical skills to help save the life of magistrate Nicola Mobbs, who was knocked unconscious when she fell from her horse. When the two Island healthcare trusts were amalgamated recently, she was among those to lose her position as non-executive director.
