L. Russell "Rusty" Daniel has joined Barry Real Estate Cos. as its chief operating officer.

L. Russell "Rusty" Daniel has joined Barry Real Estate Cos. as its chief operating officer.

Daniel left his position at Hines Interests L.P. as vice president for the new slot.

In his new role, Daniel will help Barry move forward on future developments, especially with its residential joint venture with PEC Development, as well as secure financing for future developments.Daniel also will help map future acquisitions of existing office properties, officials said.

"I decided I needed a new platform to expand my experience and knowledge base," Daniel said.Part of that decision was based on Barry's plans for growth and development in projects.

"[Hines' projects] are much more development-driven, big-building development-driven," he said."With a soft market, there are fewer opportunities."He said his relations with Hines remain good.

Daniel had the development experience Barry was seeking, said Chris Schoen, president of Barry Real Estate.
