Daley began working part time at Mission in 1991 when he came to the region to teach in the respiratory program at Southwestern Community College. In 1995 he was named full time clinical specialist for the Respiratory Care Department, and has held various positions since them.
In addition to his work at Mission, Daley has been actively involved with many educational events throughout the state. He was instrumental in starting the "Gladiators" competition between student teams at state meetings held in Boone. This competition challenges student teams to complete a series of clinical challenges in a specific time period, with judges assessing them for correct techniques under stress, to simulate real life clinical situations.
Daley has served as moderator, contributor and participant in both the state and national "Sputum Bowl" competitions for respiratory therapists, designed to test the textbook and clinical knowledge of practitioners.
Daley began his healthcare career working at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte in 1976 as a diener, or assistant to the pathologist, then transferred into what was then known as inhalation therapy. He worked there while waiting to get into the respiratory program at Central Piedmont in Charlotte, which was then one of the few respiratory programs in the state.
