Michael Dailey , M.D. , an infectious disease specialist who works at North Fulton , testified along those lines at a March public hearing in support of Sen.Bill 148.Dailey says Northside's overstocking frequently leads to it being on diversion , meaning emergency cases are diverted from the hospital to surrounding facilities. He's admitted patients to North Fulton's emergency room ( the hospital is the only trauma center for miles around ) , only to have insurance companies call a few hours later and begin pushing for transfer to Northside - even for patients on ventilators. But when he calls , Northside is frequently on diversion. The week we spoke to Dailey , who split time between Northside , St. Joe's and North Fulton for 12 years , Northside was on diversion four out of seven days , according to his count.Northside is advertising a product they can't deliver , as are the insurers , he says.
