NBC12 Online - ABC Board faces major changes - [Cached Version]
Published on: 6/12/2003    Last Visited: 6/14/2003

"As you might imagine, when you are involved with illegal distribution of alcohol, it will lead into associated crimes such as gambling, money-laundering, tax-evasion, prostitution, drugs," says ABC enforcement director Chris Curtis.

ABC lost more than a million dollars last year.It was part of the governor's emergency effort to balance the state budget and the board was shocked when state lawmakers removed another $1.6 million dollars from the current budget.

"It was a little bit surprising because the ABC board enforcement division had already assumed some cuts in previous budget reductions," says Curtis."So our staffing level had already decreased to some extent."

Curtis will try to avoid layoffs by delaying purchases of equipment and vehicles.
