    A visitor to Pony Pasture Rapids may have had a jolt yesterday, finding what turned out to be a human thigh bone.

    Richmond police, responding to a call that a James River Park visitor found what appeared to be a bone, recovered a badly degraded human femur yesterday afternoon, spokeswoman Charmaine Curtis said.The site was in the 7200 block of Riverside Drive.

    The bone appeared to have been in the river for several months, possibly several years, she said.

    Police spokeswoman Charmaine Curtis said afternoon dismissal of students was delayed so students could leave in a controlled and orderly manner.

    Richmond Council of PTAs President Tichi Pinkney-Epps said she received calls throughout the day about the fight, including word that some parents were unwilling to listen to police on the scene.

    "We do not condone parents behaving unruly or escalating any violence," she said.

    Charmaine Curtis, a spokeswoman for the Richmond Police Department, said officers found the body Saturday evening about 5:30 p.m. and were investigating the death.

    Curtis said the body was found at a power substation on Palmyra Street in Richmond, and that it had been sent to the state medical examiner for identification and to confirm the cause of death.
