    BOSTON (May 14, 1997) -- New England Investment Companies, L.P. announced today that it has named Charles E. Curtis to Vice President, Director of Taxes.In his new position, Mr. Curtis oversees all tax-related issues at the holding company level and continues to be responsible for tax compliance and research for the company and its subsidiaries.Mr. Curtis also provides tax due diligence during the firm's acquisition process.

    "Over the past four years, Chuck has done a great job working with all of our affiliates and resolving complex tax issues," said G. Neal Ryland, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at New England Investment Companies, L.P.     Prior to joining New England Investment Companies in 1993, Mr. Curtis served as Senior Tax Accountant at International Data Group (IDG), where he was responsible for preparing consolidated tax returns for the holding company, as well as its 36 domestic and 33 foreign subsidiaries.Mr. Curtis also has served as Senior Tax Consultant with Deloitte & Touche and as Tax Accountant at Arthur Andersen & Company.Mr. Curtis earned his B.A. in accounting from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his M.A. in taxation from Bentley College.
