Washington, DC, October 30, 2008 -- Arnold & Porter LLP announced today that Charles G. Curtis, Jr. has joined the firm as a partner in the business litigation group.
Mr. Curtis, a former law clerk to Justice Brennan of the US Supreme Court, has in-depth experience in complex litigation, appellate matters, and substantive issues of Native American law.
He has counseled and litigated in areas including constitutional, administrative, antitrust, intellectual property, telecommunications, environmental and natural resource, and general commercial law.

Mr. Curtis focuses a substantial portion of his practice on representing a wide array of individual, corporate, associational, and government clients in their relationships with Native American tribes and tribal entities.
His work in this field spans treaty rights, environmental, energy, tax, real estate, trademark, distribution, public policy, and numerous other areas.
Additionally, he has handled antitrust litigation matters for several Fortune 100 clients and has represented a variety of individual, corporate, and associational clients on appellate matters before the US Supreme Court, federal courts of appeals, and state appellate courts.
He maintains an active pro bono practice that concentrates, in part, on constitutional issues.
Prior to joining Arnold & Porter, Mr. Curtis was a founder and co-chair of the national appellate practice groups at his two former firms.
He served as law clerk to Senior Judge David L. Bazelon of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (1982-1983) and to Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. of the US Supreme Court (1984-85).
Mr. Curtis will be based out of Madison, Wisconsin and will work closely with lawyers in Arnold & Porter's Washington, DC office.
Mr. Curtis joins five litigators and former colleagues who recently arrived at Arnold & Porter: Kenneth Chernof and Carl Nadler (Washington, DC) and James Speyer, John Ulin, and Eric Shapland (Los Angeles).
