The most recent NMSHMM luncheon meeting was held on Wednesday, September 18, and featured Brett Cummins, Manager/Chemist for Rinchem Company, Inc.Brett is Assistant Manager at Sandia National Laboratories' Hazardous Waste Management Facility.Brett described the various processes at the facility, such as waste classification, pick up, packaging, storage, and shipment.He noted that Sandia also recycles hazardous wastes such as batteries, precious metals from plating operations, used oil, bulbs and lamps, and computer circuit boards and monitors.Brett's presentation included examples of amounts of wastes handled at the facility in 2000: more than 14 million pounds of non-RCRA waste, 155,000 pounds of RCRA waste, and 70,000 pounds of asbestos.He also briefly described the Solid Waste Management and Recycling Facility.He concluded his presentation by expertly fielding several questions from meeting attendees.
Upcoming luncheon meetings are scheduled for October 16 and November 20.
