FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP—The American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer (COC) has recognized Honorio M. Cruz, MD, FACS, a board-certified surgeon on staff at CentraState Medical Center, with a 2006 Cancer Liaison Physician Outstanding Performance Award.
As one of 1,600 physician volunteers nationwide with the COC's Cancer Liaison Program, Dr. Cruz is charged with improving clinical care, collaborating with local agencies to reduce the burden of cancer in the community, and spearheading COC initiatives such as quality improvement studies.
He is one of only 55 liaisons to receive this national award for 2006.
"Dr. Cruz is a dedicated, vital champion for CentraState's Comprehensive Cancer Program and for quality cancer care in our community," says Uzma Rizwan, BS, CCS, CTR, CentraState's cancer registry coordinator, who nominated Dr. Cruz for the award.
