Shannon Cruickshank, director of the Gender Issues Centre, said Tuesday.

She said having a campus event linked to Maxim is against a student policy requiring the campus to be free of discrimination and harassment.

The day falls on Tuesday, but the entire week is recognized as well, said Shannon Cruickshank of Lakehead University's Gender Issues Centre (GIC).

The centre is celebrating the week in conjunction with Aboriginal Women's Week, and as such is dedicating the week to aboriginal women, Cruickshank said.

"That's really not a lot of money for a beer company," said Shannon Cruickshank, the centre's director.

She said the university already has adequate foot patrols and they do an excellent job.

Cruickshank added that it was a token amount for a beer company to give and that the event they held did not present a positive image of women.
