In doubt about my own children's diet I went to see Penny Crowther, a nutrition therapist who works at the Art of Health and Yoga Centre in Balham in order to set my mind at rest.I am glad I went. She reminded me that good nutrition is a key element in achieving and maintaining a strong immune system. If children get colds on a regular basis it could be a sign of a weak immune system. This is what Penny advised me:
Reduce wheat
Penny asked me to think about the amount of wheat my children eat in a day: Wheat based cereals for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch and pasta or pizza for dinner?
...
I have always cooked a meat and two veg dinner with fruit for pudding so Penny didn't find anything wrong here! She thought I should however switch to whole grain rice as white rice, like white bread, is very low in nutrients compared to the wholegrain versions. When rice or wheat is refined the outer layer of the grain is removed.
...
Penny can recommend suitable amounts.
...
With five children and working part-time on Families South West, I thought it normal to be always exhausted, always feeling tired and longing to go to bed. Penny said it was certainly not normal and that it could be cured. She recommended a good quality "High Zinc and Manganese Supplement" from Archturus Healthcare. And after two months I can say: it works.I do not feel tired the way I used to, and have got some energy left at the end of the day!I thoroughly recommend it!
Penny has over 14 years experience working in the health business.Running a health food shop and seeing at first hand the powerful effects of natural foods and supplements on the health of customers led her to training in holistic massage and aromatherapy and a diploma in nutrition therapy.
Nutrition therapy is particularly helpful for low energy levels, rhinitis, sinusitis, poor immunity, behaviour problems, candida and bowel problems. The inital consultation costs £50 and involves a detailed assessment and written dietary supplement programme supplied within 3 days of the consultation.
