Dr Paul Crowther: "Stellar Evolution"
Paul was due to speak to us this January, but had to cancel at the last moment. He is a Royal Society University Research Fellow in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Sheffield University. Before summer 2003 he was a member of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at University College London where he had been a student and member of staff for 16 years, even though he claims not to look a day over 21! Paul's particular interest is Wolf-Rayets: these stars represent the most advanced observed stage of massive star evolution, and are the immediate progenitors of supernovae. He has gathered observations from remote locations, usually at high altitude; Hawaii (UKIRT, Gemini and CFHT), Australia (AAT and Mount-Stromlo), Chile (CTIO and ESO) and the Canaries.
