   Born in Concord, the son of Walter R. and Clara (Bobik) Crowther Sr. of Concord, he was educated in Maynard schools and was a 1959 graduate of Maynard High School.
   
   He received his bachelor's degree from UMass-Amherst in 1964 and later earned his master's degree in education from Westfield State College. Mr. Crowther worked for the Northampton School Department for 36 years, first as a science teacher in 1964 and later as vice principal at Ryan Road School for 11 years.
   
   He was principal at Florence Grammar School for one year before being named principal at Robert K. Finn Ryan Road Elementary School in 1986, where he worked until his retirement in 2000.
   
   He was a former member of the Northampton Elks Lodge and Northampton Country Club. A former youth baseball coach, he was active in Boy Scout Troop 103 in Florence.
   
   He loved his grandchildren, Plum Island and the beach, and he enjoyed fishing, painting, furniture restoration, gardening and music.
