The International Literature and Arts Program, directed by Bonnie R. Crown, seeks to create greater global awareness and strengthen world cultural literacy of Americans by introducing them to the creative expressions of other societies and traditions. The Program also promotes the influence of other traditions, particularly from Asian societies, in the contemporary American visual, performing, and literary arts. These activities are carried out in cooperation with American, European, and Asian book publishers and with other arts organizations.
Ms. Crown serves as a staff reviewer for World Literature Today. She is also a member of a number of bodies concerned with Asian-American cultural affairs, such as the jury of Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission's Literary Translation Award, and the Board of Trustees of the Taraknath Das Foundation. She is a Friend of the Oasis Theatre Company, which stages world classics and Chair of Nolita Gallery, a multi-cultural arts organization.
