Alan F. Crown, Operating Partner- Transportation and Logistics Mr. Crown has over 30 years of operating experience in the rail industry.Mr. Crown began his career with the B&O Railroad in 1966, while attending the University of Baltimore.After B&O, Mr. Crown joined CSX where he transitioned through various headquarter and field operating positions, including Trainmaster, Supervisor of Operations, Assistant General Manager of Network Operations and Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer.Following the merger between Chessie System and Seaboard, Mr. Crown was responsible for assembling the first computer operation center for the newly integrated CSX rail network, as well as running the Rail Car Management Department and Locomotive Management Department.Mr. Crown then was transitioned to run several different Regions as General Manager, and in 1992 ran the Network Operations.In 1996, he became Vice President of CSX's C&O Coal Business Unit to take responsibility for the largest commodity in the company.Encountering problems with CSX's Conrail acquisition in 1999, CSX moved Mr. Crown to Jacksonville, Florida as SVP of Transportation to correct the operating problems.In 2001, Mr. Crown was promoted to Executive Vice President and finally Chief Operating Officer where he was responsible for 23,000 of CSX's 35,000 employees and all operations including engineering, safety, and train schedule design and performance.Mr. Crown has served on numerous industry boards, including the Transportation Technology Committee, SOMC: The Association of American Railroads top operating committee (as Vice Chairman) and the Con Rail Board.Mr. Crown currently serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Transload America, a waste-by-rail corporation located in South Orange, NJ.He currently sits on the Board of Transload America and James River Coal Company (NASD:JRCC) and serves as a consultant to the Gersen Lehrman Group Transportation Council.
