Mr. Crowley was a graduate of the Bolivar Central School in 1943, of the Taft School of Watertown, Conn., in 1944, as well as from the College of the Holy Cross in 1948, with a bachelor's degree in education.While at Holy Cross, he was a Latin scholar, and received his master's degree in education from St. Bonaventure University.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy, and was employed by the Bolivar Central School District for 35 years as a high school English teacher, retiring in 1988.Mr. Crowley was a member of St. Mary's Church, Bolivar, member and past commander of Kenyon Adrus Post 772, American Legion in Bolivar.He was a member for 58 years, and received the Legionnaire of the Year award in 2004, and was instrumental in the purchase of the current Legion Post building.He was a life member of the B.P.O.E. 1495 Lodge in Wellsville, and received the Elk of the Year award in 1969.Along with his wife, he was a co-founder of the Allegany County ARC.He loved his family and grandchildren, and was known for his love of literature, specifically Shakespeare.
