   John's the Master Builder of MAYA -- an appropriate role for a descendant of industrious and resourceful New Englanders. He is also standing is as the leader of MAYA's engineering group.
   
   If John had lived a few hundred years ago, he'd be hanging off the stern of the Mayflower, testing some kind of invention that reduces drag. Instead, he now toils night and day using a computer to design prototypes, or smoothing finishes to a mercury-like slipperiness in MAYA's machine shop.
   
   John also keeps a hand on the tiller and an eye on the bottom line as a project manager -- especially those that involve the development of new products.
   
   Until we lured him here, he worked at Daedalus Excel designing handheld gas detectors for Draeger Safety, image-guided radiation therapy devices for Nomos, and a breakthrough in-home dialysis machine. At Stanley Bostitch, he made professional-grade pneumatic nail guns easier for construction workers to use.
   
   He earned his Mechanical Engineering degree at Carnegie Mellon University. He's a member of both the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Industrial Designers Society of America, and he serves on the board of the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the IDSA.
   
   Although John is here around the clock (and many of us are certain he sleeps curled around the band saw in the shop), he swears that he and his wife travel as much as they can. He's also surprisingly knowledgeable about C-Span.
