"I felt pretty shamed because I consider myself a pro in the field and was well protected and had all this anti-virus software," said John Crowley, chief executive of the Internet software firm BizNetix Inc. in Henrietta."I was the one constantly helping others with their computers."
But a few months ago, Crowley noticed his Internet home page kept changing to an online casino site."I would try to change it back, but it would keep reloading itself," he said.
Crowley installed new anti-spyware tools and found 50 different spyware programs on his system. Most were relatively harmless.
"But there were a few that were labeled as malicious - things that capture an image of your screen or try to find weaknesses in your system," Crowley said.
