Al Crowley has worked for TCG for nearly five years; his first major assignment at TCG was also TCG's first contract.He is currently leading a team of six programmers working on at least as many contracts.Al's primary focus is developing and improving the core code and libraries that are used in all the projects that TCG designs.
Education
Al did his undergraduate work at Villanova University, where he had a full Presidential Scholarship.He was graduated magna cum laude in 1994 with a degree from the Honors Program for Comprehensive Sciences as well as a degree in computer science.At the University of Pennsylvania he studied algorithms and computer networks and received a master's degree in computer and information science in December, 1995.
Technical Experience
Al has been developing web applications in Perl and C++ for 5 years.In addition to the CGI scripting, he also does database design and interfacing or Oracle, Sybase, mySQL, and ODBC.Other web-related skills include CORBA and Javascript.
He is co-designer of the SteelBlue web application server.SteelBlue is written in C++ for both Unix and Windows.It connects natively to Oracle, mySQL, and mSQL databases and can connect to any ODBC data source on Windows NT.SteelBlue provides a web application developer with automatic security features, client and server side data checking, and a strong framework for database access with business rule enforcement.
Business Experience
Before joining TCG, Al Crowley was working in a mostly academic setting.At Villanova he worked on developing educational applications for use in classroom and student laboratory settings.At the University of Pennsylvania he was a Teachers Assistant for "Introduction to Computer Science."
Special Interests
Al spends most of the day at his home office keeping his dog Gambit, a 103 pound Labrador Retriever, out of trouble.On the occasional few hours a week when his wife Elizabeth, a third year Medical Resident, isn't working, they like to play table top games, watch movies and go to the beach (usually with Gambit).
Al works hard at being hip and trendy by undertaking a variety of unusual projects such as building a free standing home arcade machine, maintaining a classic car, and collecting "cool toys" of all kinds.
