Kenneth Crowell, of Longs Crossing Road, was accidentally shot in the stomach with a 12-gauge shotgun by one of his hunting partners a little after 11 a.m.
...
A medical helicopter was called to the scene and transported Crowell directly to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, where he underwent surgery. The accident occurred while Crowell, who is in his late 30s or early 40s, and another man were dragging a deer that had been shot during the first day of deer gun season. The man was helping drag the deer with one hand while holding his shotgun in the other when the weapon discharged, wounding Crowell. The county sheriff's office, which has declined to identify the other man, is investigating the shooting as an accident. The local wildlife officer with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources was also involved in the investigation but he could not be reached for comment.
